Aphrodite Hills Car Hire — Compare Paphos Deals
Aphrodite Hills sits about 20 km east of Paphos Airport, just above Petra tou Romiou. The self-contained resort is isolated, so a hire car is essential beyond the gates.

Why Hire a Car at Aphrodite Hills
Aphrodite Hills is a self-contained 235-hectare golf resort on a hilltop plateau above the village of Kouklia, midway between Paphos and Limassol. Internal buggies and a shuttle move you around the resort itself, but the plateau is genuinely isolated: there is no bus to the gates, the village-square supermarket is priced for convenience, and the nearest proper towns are Kouklia and Paphos. For any stay longer than a weekend, a hire car is less a luxury than a necessity.
- Resort shuttle: useful for the on-site beach club (about 15-20 minutes), but it runs to a fixed timetable and does not serve Paphos town.
- Taxis: a fare to Paphos is roughly €30-€40 each way — fine once, expensive for a week of sightseeing and dinners.
- Public bus: OSYPA line 630 runs from the B6 coast road into Paphos about five times a day, but you must first reach the B6 stop near Kouklia.
- Hire car: complete freedom to reach Petra tou Romiou, the wine villages, the beaches and the other golf courses on your own schedule.
Driving here is reassuringly familiar for British visitors. As a former British colony, Cyprus drives on the left, roundabouts give way to the right, and there are no toll roads anywhere on the island. Your UK photocard licence is fully valid, so no International Driving Permit is needed — our Cyprus driving guide covers the rules, cameras and fuel before you travel.
Airport Pickup: Paphos or Larnaca
Two airports serve the resort, and the choice matters. Paphos International (PFO) is only about 20 km west — a 20-25 minute drive via the B6 and A6 — and is the obvious gateway for an Aphrodite Hills holiday. Larnaca International (LCA) is around 112 km and 75 minutes east, almost entirely on the A6/A1 motorway. After a long flight, the shorter PFO transfer is far kinder for a late-night or family arrival.
| Airport | Distance | Drive time | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paphos (PFO) | ~20 km | 20-25 min | B6 then A6 eastbound — recommended |
| Larnaca (LCA) | ~112 km | ~75 min | A5/A1 to Limassol, then A6 westbound |
Leaving the A6, watch for the brown tourist sign marked "Petra tou Romiou" and "Aphrodite Hills" — miss it and the next junction is a 15 km detour. Booking your Aphrodite Hills airport car hire in advance means you collect the keys and drive straight to your villa instead of queuing for a taxi.
On-Resort Hire, Insurance & Excess
One local advantage is that Leos Car Rentals keeps an office right in the Aphrodite Hills village square, so you can hire only for the middle of your stay or have a car waiting on arrival. Other Paphos firms — SEC, Carwiz, VIP Cars — will usually deliver to the resort gate, though delivery to Kouklia often carries a €30-€75 surcharge that is not always shown in the headline online price.
| Cover | Typical cost | Excess / deposit | Key exclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic CDW (included) | In base rate | €200-€900 hold | Tyres, glass, underbody, off-road |
| Desk Super CDW | €7-€15 per day | Reduced or zero | Off-road, interior, sometimes tyres/glass |
| UK standalone policy | £3-£6 per day | Zero (reimbursed) | Off-road driving, breach of hire terms |
Every Cyprus hire contract voids your insurance the moment the tyres leave sealed tarmac — even on a 4x4, and even with a zero-excess policy. The rutted track to the Adonis Baths and the Akamas dirt roads are the classic traps. Keep the car on asphalt, compare car hire deals for the sealed roads, and take a jeep safari for the rough stuff.
Golf, Vehicle Choice & Seasonal Pricing
Aphrodite Hills is a golf resort first, and that shapes the right car. The on-site PGA National Cyprus course needs no car at all, but a full golf travel bag will not fit in a small Group A hatchback without folding the rear seats. A party of three or four golfers with clubs realistically needs an estate or compact SUV — useful too for reaching Secret Valley, Elea and Minthis. See the courses and day trips on our things to do near Aphrodite Hills page.
Unusually for the Mediterranean, the golf high season is the cooler half of the year — roughly October to April — so estates, SUVs and automatics sell out around the UK October half-term, Easter and the winter golf weeks. Book those categories early. The heritage trail to Petra tou Romiou and ancient Paphos is a year-round draw and only minutes from the gate.
